Seoul Jeongneung Tomb

Seoul's Jeongneung is famous for being the mausoleum of Empress Sindeok, a favorite of Taejo, the first king of the Joseon Dynasty. Empress Sindeok is known for her first meeting with Taejo, when she handed him a glass of water with willow leaves floating on it. When Empress Sindeok passed away, Taejo had her tomb built on the spot where he would one day be buried. However, after Taejong was crowned king and Taejo passed away, Jeongneung, which was located in the city castle, was neglected.Unlike other royal tombs, Jeongneung is characterized by the absence of folding screens or railing stones, but its charm is highly regarded as an ancient Joseon Dynasty tomb. Regular commentary programs give visitors the opportunity to see the tomb while listening to professional interpreters.
