About Seoul Yak-ryeong Market

Seoul Yak-ryeong Market is the largest distribution market for Korean herbal medicines in Korea, accounting for 70% of the country's herbal medicines. It evolved into what it is today as a collection of herbal medicine-related shops gathered on the site of a Joseon Dynasty bo-je-won, which provided free lodging and medical treatment for travelers. The market, which covers about 80,000 square meters and houses more than 1,000 herbal medicine-related businesses, was approved by the Seoul Metropolitan Government as Seoul Yak-ryeong Market in 1995 and designated as a herbal medicine special zone in 2005. With the growing interest in oriental medicine around the world, it has become a popular tourist attraction for foreign visitors. Every year, a festival is held where you can experience various aspects of Korean medicine culture.
